Rideable and Registered Spanish Mustang
Little Joe-Registered Spanish Mustang (Reg. name Broken Arrow).
14 hands tall and 7 ¾” cannon bones measured just below the knee
3 ½ years old
Little Joe is well started under saddle. He’s had 60 days with a trainer and is currently in bozal.
He is very light and responsive to stop, back up and directional cues (both leg and rein).
We are still working on trot-to-canter transitions. I am trying to muddle through this myself. I’d really like to see this done right with a pro. trainer, but I don’t have the funds to send him again.
He rides out with other horses or by himself. He prefers being with others at this point, but he doesn’t do anything silly. He just slows his pace. He actually enjoys getting out and seeing the “sights”.
He has been on trail rides and does well. For example: After a 2 ½ hour ride on a muddy and rocky Western North Carolina trail, my Peruvians were blowing and sweating. This little guy didn’t even break a sweat-not even under the saddle!
He crosses water, ditches, logs etc. No balking. He even walked over a big springy mattress for me!
Easy keeper-unshod-Good with vet and for hoof trimmings.
No “catching games” necessary. He will come to you when he sees you-even if you just rode him earlier…
I have had Joe for a year and a half now. We just put him under saddle in June. He was going to be my gaming and endurance horse however, I have decided to stay with laterally gaited horses. My Peruvian Pasos’ gait has gotten me spoiled.
Little Joe’s lines have the golden “Jack Slade X Esperanza” cross in them. Endurance genes to the max. His sire, Dakotah Blue, produces NICE horses. Do an internet search and find his good looking and capable offspring. Joe is certainly that. Joe is everything a mustang should be: Bold, Confident, Curious, Athletic, Strong and Personable.
Little Joe just needs someone to finish his training-and Ride, Ride, Ride into the blue yonder.
I would consider trading for a sound, sane, rideable Peruvian Paso or gaited Peruvian cross of similar caliber.
